Hey everyone!
We are here, still working 12 hours day. Things are still going smoothly but it’s not quite ready yet.
I could push something to you guys now, but it would be broken, and I will not release a broken product. The simulation stuff is just about wrapped up. then we need to hook up some UI, and add in some triggers for docking and undocking from a station. Also have to make up some NPC ships (this wont take long) and do a quick pass on part stats, just to make sure they are not all identical.
I understand you guys are excited, but I will always choose to wait than release, by delaying we only make the game better, by pushing something out it gives people a bad impression and causes extra work as there will be tons of posts on the forums about stuff not working and helping people and crashes etc, just look at our old forum with the stuff related to the pre-alpha shipyard demo.
Our plan is to get the alpha out (through steam) this month, I cannot and wouldn’t guarantee this, it is our development estimate. If something happens that needs to be fixed it will be delayed. If things go smoothly, we plan for 2 -3 months of alpha, then beta, beta should be feature complete and just be fine tuning, this will run for 2 – 6 weeks, with a pre-order on steam.
I appreciate your patience, and your excitement for the game, trust me, we want it to be great!
February 13, 2013 at 9:19 pm #718Good to hear it! If you need any help on creating NPxs ships you can always ask for help. *cough* that’s probably the only thing I’ll do for a few months *cough*.
Hope everything goes according to plan.
February 13, 2013 at 9:32 pm #719Hey, I could, you know, help you build NPC ships to speed up development.
Just send me the new shipyard builder. Doesn’t even need a test drive thingy.
I’ll just make a bunch of ship files and send them to you.
It’ll work. Trust me.
February 14, 2013 at 12:12 am #724Dont you dare steal my idea! Dealt Productions has been working on ships for centuries and has the most experiences in build versatile ships!
February 14, 2013 at 12:12 am #725Thank you for the update. this great to hear, I can bet you are swamped with work. I can wait but I am very excited.
February 14, 2013 at 1:59 am #726Thanks for the update Sean.
@ Mrcc3000 & Dakili: I find fact that I could predict those responses rather…. disturbing. I want in

Where beta is pretty close to a functioning product, and alpha is a version with which the people testing it understand the nature of the beast, and not expect a highly polished version?
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not trying to get you to rush it, but it happens often that a dev is too perfectionistic when it comes to pre release versions.
February 14, 2013 at 9:46 am #738I understand what you are saying, but honestly if we don’t get the factions working, there is little more than whats in the Pre-alpha shipyard demo (though that has been changed) The faction system is huge, and has taken all of this time. The player may not have the feedback at first release to realize just what all is going on under the hood, but its pretty complicated. If that stuff isn’t working right, it causes crashing. Oh and we also need to get game saves working, unless you like starting over every time

Meh, easily solved by keeping my Computer on and the game in the back ground

I have the utmost respect for your commitment to a quality release, and look forward to the results.
Having said that… dammit. I know Valve is awesome but why must you emulate their development schedules?

I don’t know Valve’s schedules all that well. can you explain it to me?

They have none…they call it the Valve Time

Oh that one, thought you meant something else.

In my defense, I meant it as humor. Also forgive the ridiculous typo being quoted, I couldn’t decide between “an awesome [publisher/developer]” and forgot to correct my grammar after giving up.
February 19, 2013 at 9:56 pm #939Actually nagging does help. I mean whats the best way to motivate a fat guy to loose weight? nag them crazy about their weight until they get the motivation to make you choke on your nagging by loosing weight.
And in that logic; the more we nag them, the faster it will get released. Maybe?
P.S: If you cant tell that I’m bullshitting around, then shame on you.
